Hudson, W. H. - The naturalist in La Plata.

London, Chapman and Hall, 1892. Large 8vo (22.2 x 14.1 cm). viii, 388 pp., 40 pp. of Catalogue of books of Chapman and Hall; tissue-guarded frontispiece; three full-sized plates, numerous text engravings. Original green, pictorial cloth with vignette on front board and gilt title on the spine. Black endpapers. = First edition, first printing (with the Febrary 1892 publisher's catalogue). A very popular account on the Natural History in this part of Argentina. This first edition was printed in 1,000 copies; foloowed the same year by a second printing of another 750 copies. The illustrations are by the great Dutch natural history illustrator Joseph Smit (1836-1929). Fore edge uncut. Naive bookplate of John Ferrier on the front free endpaper recto; blind stamp on the title. A bit cocked, otherwise a very good copy in original state.
